Hi, I’m Molly, your resident color nerd and recovering pastel-addict.
I found color theory in the middle of a dark chapter in my life. While one-handed, healing from an injury that turned my life upside down. I couldn’t do much, but I could study, and that tiny spark of curiosity turned into a full-blown obsession.
At the time, I was in cosmetology school where I thought we’d learn which hair colors actually looked good on different people. Spoiler: we didn’t. The understanding of undertones was barely surface level, so I went searching for more. Somewhere between pain, self-pity, and a lot of YouTube tabs, I discovered that the answers were most definitely out there.
Back then, I had unofficially myself pegged as a Light Spring. I bleached my hair a bright strawberry blonde, lightened my jet-black eyebrows, and built a whole aesthetic around pastel pinks and peaches. It kind of worked… but not really. My skin didn’t glow and I looked crazy unless I kept on top of my makeup and hair gymnastics. My friend Claire still swears it was her favorite look on me (cries in Bright Winter), but deep down, I knew it wasn’t me.
Finding your true colors is like finding your real self. It’s the quiet click of self-recognition and self acceptance.
Over the years I’ve learned that what works for you never goes out of style. You don’t have to chase someone else’s sparkle; yours was built in and is waiting on standby for you to access and play with every day.
I’ve done hair for years, and the pattern never stopped patterning: people always want what they don’t have. Curly girls straightening their curls, brunettes bleaching to blonde, platinum babes going dark again. It’s a never-ending loop until you realize that what you were born with is your gift. Unapologetically embracing it makes you magnetic.
The good news? There’s always room for expression, evolution, and play. You can honor your natural palette and experiment with your moods, your Venus sign, your phases of life. When I first found out I was a Bright Winter, I thought, “clown palette!” Now I see it as my beautiful jewel box!
And that’s what I want for you too.
Let’s talk color and discover what makes you glow. ✨
